Why the conversations you avoid with yourself become the ceilings your business can't break through.
The conversations that change your business happen when nobody else is listening.
The conversation after the client says no. The conversation when the business isn't growing as quickly as you'd hoped. The conversation where you stop asking "Why is this happening?" and start asking "What's my role in it?"
"Founders don't build businesses through decisions alone. They build them through the real conversations they're willing to have with themselves."
And most founders are avoiding that one important conversation.
Building a business gives you plenty of places to hide. You can blame the market, the economy, your team, your competitors and even bad luck. Sometimes those things are real.
But eventually every founder arrives at the same crossroads.
"Am I solving the problem... or am I protecting my ego?"
Honesty demands something optimism doesn't.
Responsibility.
Every meaningful change I've made in business started with a conversation I didn't want to have. Whether it was admitting I'd hired the wrong person, or realising the business had outgrown the person who built it. Those conversations were uncomfortable. And transformational.
Psychologists often talk about cognitive dissonance which is the discomfort you feel when reality and your identity no longer match. Founders experience this constantly.
We tell ourselves we're empowering the team - while making every important decision ourselves. We say we want freedom - while creating businesses that depend entirely on us.
My advice? Stop sabotaging your own hard work.

The founders who grow the fastest rarely have all the answers. They're simply having better conversations. Conversations that challenge them.
Every breakthrough I've had in business can be traced back to a conversation; sometimes with a mentor, an investor, another founder, or a stranger. The conversation was valuable because someone asked the hard questions I'd been avoiding.
That's the real power of community. Being surrounded by people willing to hold up a mirror and hope it doesn't shatter.
The quality of your business will almost always reflect the quality of the conversations you're willing to have.
Especially the quiet, hard, awkward and difficult ones.
